Five types of copper pipe connectors

Copper pipe connectors are important parts of any HVAC system because they join sections of copper pipe so refrigerant can move through the system safely and without leaks. HVAC systems work under high pressure and deal with both hot and cold temperatures so the connectors have to be strong and reliable.

Couplings

Couplings are straight fittings that connect two copper pipes of the same size. They’re often used when a pipe needs repairing or when extra length is added to an existing line.

Copper Tee Joints

Tee joints are shaped like a “T” and let the refrigerant split into two directions. They’re common in homes and commercial buildings and in a system that cools several rooms, a tee joint can divide the main line so each room gets the right amount of refrigerant.

Y-Shaped Joints

Y-shaped joints are mainly used in VRF systems. They help share refrigerant evenly between multiple indoor units and keep the pressure balanced. Good installation and safety checks are important and guidance from HSE helps to make sure systems are installed safely.

Press Fittings

Press fittings are a modern option for copper pipe connectors, like the examples seen here: //watkinspowis.co.uk/products/copper-pipe-fittings-and-press-systems. Instead of using a flame, installers use a press tool to create a tight seal. This makes the job quicker and safer, especially in places where open flames aren’t allowed.

Elbows

Elbows let the pipe change direction without bending it by force. They come in angles like 45° and 90° which makes it easier to fit pipes around corners or into tight spaces.
